Taiwan’s Cross-Strait-détente-inspired transfer of coastal surveillance duties at Wuqiu Islet from the Navy to the Coast Guard has unfortunately led to the exploitative depletion of area fisheries by China-based fishing fleets. Witnessing this pilfering of their livelihood, Wuqiu fishermen are now questioning who truly rules over their island home.
